What We Do

National Transgender Network Sri Lanka is a network that is established to secure rights of the transgender persons in Sri Lanka and to improve their health conditions. Transgender is an umbrella term which in addition to including people whose gender identity is the opposite of their assigned sex (Trans men and Trans women), it may include people who are not exclusively masculine or feminine (people who are genderqueer/non-binary, e.g. Bi-Gender, Pangender, Gender Fluid, or A-gender, Androgynous, Transvestites and Cross-dressers). Therefore we include anyone who considers them as under the umbrella term ‘Transgender’.

  • We are always ready to assist the transgender community to go through legal processes which include changing personal documents such as Birth Certificate, National Identity Card, Passport, and Educational Certificates.

  • We expect to support the surgical process which includes Counseling, Hormone Treatments, and Gender Confirming Surgeries.

  • If you need any health advice regarding STI (Sexually Transmitted Infections), we will be glad to assist you.

  • One of our primary approaches (or objective) is allowing the Trans community, to have supportive clinical facilities by government hospitals, district wise by locating at least one location per each district, island-wide.

  • Our other primary approach (or objective) is to support the National HIV Response by developing advocacy programs, workshops about condomization, mobile clinics, etc.

  • We hope to ensure job security of the Transgender Community in Sri Lanka and decrease unemployment. We have decided to create opportunities for vocational training and educational development.

By achieving the above, we are determined to provide the most secure environment for the Trans community and support Trans equality.

"We need to say, with one voice, that Transgender people are valued, they are loved, they are us, they deserve to be treated fairly and equally"
